The battle for Afghanistan

George W. Bush will seek $10.6 billion for security and reconstruction in the country, AP. The Defense Department announced that 3,200 soldiers of the 3rd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, will remain in Afghanistan for an additional 120 days (or less) instead of ending their deployment.

Syed Saleem Shahzad, always worth reading, has a negative assessment of NATO against the Taliban, Asia Times Online. He writes that some NATO deals with local leaders will benefit the Taliban.

It’s game over time for the Neocon

Wolfowitz, Rummy and BigmoustacheBolton are gone for good

And Dick Cheney won’t survive the Libby/Plame scandal

But you have to give Bush some credit, and shall I say, some hope:
I mean the ethanol is freedom and bio-diesel is bliss speech, coming from a man who mocked “tree huggers” for years and systematically advanced the interests of big oil…. That’s grand!

The man is actually reinventing himself as sort of a cross between Lilian Hellman and Jo Bové.

And now he’s even “offering” (using our money of course) socialist-style free healthcare and education for the Pashtu proletariat of Kandahar…beating comrade Brezhnev at his own game!
